The Cold War was an interesting event in history. It was a conflict that happened between the United States and the Soviet Union which lasted for a very long time. It was also a conflict that happened right after World War 2. Among this conflict, other conflicts occurred too which lead to many problems. The Cold War itself is a debatable topic and has many opinions behind it. There was a clash between two major topics which was capitalism and communism. These two major topics lead to religious conviction and the idea of both sides wanting dominance over one another. The Cold War was definitely unexpected since the United States and the Soviet Union were both allies during the World War 2, and it was expected for them to be friendly and simple. This "cold war" among the United States and Soviet Union was mostly because had distrust on many things between each other, such as the capitalist and communism factor. This misunderstanding between the two lead to the making of dangerous weapons and some interesting policies. This idea of distrust was a huge factor for this war to happen in the first place. To conclude, the cold war was to show factors of distrust between places and conflicts between the United States and the Soviet Union.
Distrust was definitely something I caught on to as we were learning about the Cold War. I thought it was interesting how both sides, being the Soviet Union and United States were somewhat equal in power. The United States was first to use the bomb, but the Soviet Union got hold of it later on. The tension between the two parties was something that was present.
ReplyDeleteThe USSR stole the technology to create atomic weapons from the United States, however they took it further than we ever have. While testing, the USSR dropped the single most powerful nuclear device ever used, the Tizar Bomb. It was a three stage implosion type (fat man's bomb). The United States, to my knowledge, has only ever made two stage bombs. The crazy part is that the bombs could be made bigger, however it becomes very in-efficient at this point. Aside from the size of the explosives, however, the USSR and the USA had similar technology as stated in your comment, they were just applied in different ways.
DeleteFor some reason that reminded me of the double sided coin we discussed in class. America was more than happy to help a country back onto its feet; but if you joined the soviet union they would destroy you with force. eeeeeK!
ReplyDeleteThe Cold War was one that was very unique in my opinion. This is because is was the clash of two central ideas, and only that. The cold war was also not a direct conflict between the United States of America and the USSR, it was instead a proxy war. This meant that there were several different outside elements, and as a result, it led for quite a unique war in the history of the world.
